PDT Summer Stage
Philadelphia Dance Theatre presents Breaking Ground; an annual performance featuring new works from classical to contemporary commissioned specifically for the individual talents of PDT's dance artists. The concert presents works choreographed by today's most talented dance-makers and highlights the broad range of styles that PDT's training provides.
Admission is free and there are no tickets. However, donations are appreciated!
Pre order a picnic style meal from PDT to enjoy during the performance!
Snacks and beverages will also be for sale at the performance
Audience members are welcome to BYOB.
Chairs will be provided. You are welcome to bring a picnic blanket if you prefer.
Breaking Ground is one of PDT’s most impactful community outreach events of the year. We fulfill our mission of making concert dance performance accessible to our community and also giving our dancers performing experience. PDT is a non-profit and in order to fulfill our mission of changing lives through dance we endeavor to create opportunities not only for our dancers, but the community we serve. Over the years our performances have become one of our most important recruitment tools.
We love to be able to open this one performance free of charge to PDT families, friends, and our local community to enjoy the art of dance on our wonderful outdoor stage. Most people not affiliated with PDT, will only purchase a ticket to a performance they know, for example The Nutcracker or Cinderella. If you have already experienced our mixed repertory of new works, you know how much great dance our audience is missing because these individual pieces do not carry the kind of name recognition a traditional story ballet does. It is our goal to change this mindset and open our community to experiencing great concert dance from a variety of choreographers.
