Dress Code

PDT’s dress code is supplied by Eurotard and can be purchased directly from the links below, or in person at Dress 2 Dance in Glenside, PA.

  • Dancers are welcome to wear skin tone tights.

    Shoes must match the color of tights

    In the Eurotard Dress Code page for each level you will see the recommend shades of shoes to match tights

    Tights should be clean, without holes, and pulled down around feet.

    Tights are optional for Pre Ballet Students

  • No bun = no ballet. Dancers appropriate hair for class will be asked to observe.

    Hair should always be pulled back neatly in a bun for ballet

    A ponytail may be worn for modern/jazz/hip hop

    Dancers with dreads or other natural hair styles are asked to secure hair away from face so that it is not distracting when dancing.

    We recommend that dancers have a bag with appropriate hair accessories, bobby pins, hair nets, rubber bands, hair brush/comb, etc.

  • Students may wear any style of ballet slippers that are split sole, pre sewn, and do not have drawstrings

    Drawstrings are especially distracting for our younger students, and valuable class time is taken away by teachers having to re-tie them

Dress Code policies for all levels

Why does PDT require a dress code for class and performance?

  • Because uniforms change the environment of the room, it creates a serious tone in the work, honoring the traditions of dance. It reminds students of where they are, what they are in the studio to do, and limits distractions and comparisons.

  • Teachers can properly correct students when they are dressed in a proper dance uniform. When every dancer in the room has on the same thing, it limits visual noise and the teacher can focus on the students alignment more easily.

  • PDT observes a dress code so students come to the studio to focus on their technique not fashion.

  • Most schools for their recital or showcase will have you purchase a costume for each and every class, which is expensive and can be used one time. PDT prefers to have a dress code that dancers observe for class and can also wear for the Showcase, eliminating the expense of costumes.

For these reasons and more, we would like your child in the proper uniform for class and the showcase performance. We want your child to feel their best and look their best. Your child can continue wearing the leotards to class, throughout the summer, and next year. If they move up a level, you can either swap with another family or purchase a new one and use the old one as an extra. We request that you purchase the uniform upon registration.
