Pre-School Division

Ages 3-6

Pre-School Division Focus

At PDT we strive to instill a love of music and movement through games and guided imaginary play. At this stage in a child’s development, the exercises focus on gross motor skills, balance, coordination, rhythm, and finding joy in movement. As young dancers progress from Pre-Ballet 1 through Pre-Ballet 3, (Ages 3-6) basic ballet positions and French terminology are introduced, however creativity and exploration are the primary focus at this time. Each class has the opportunity to perform in the end of year June Showcase.

Determining Levels

Placement in levels at Philadelphia Dance Theatre is based upon each child's individual development.  Each dancer will develop at their own physiological rate. Ballet is hard and it takes daily practice, discipline, and dedication.  Each dancer is evaluated by their abilities, what they can comprehend, and put into their bodies. We will initially base pre-ballet levels according to age, and make changes if necessary.

Typically - Pre-ballet 1: Ages 3-4 | Pre-ballet 2: ages 4-5 | Pre ballet 3: ages 5-6
